Types Of Ants Commonly Seen
Ants can be seen the world over, in any country, at any climate. We can find them in our landscapes, in our houses, & even in our workplaces. They live in colonies, and a single colony may have over a million ants. There are several different ant species. Some of the better-known kinds are the army ants, driver ants, honeypot ants, weaver ants, leafcutter ants, fire ants, silver ants, and bulldog ants. Colonies of ants are comprised of three classes of ants, specifically the workers, the soldiers, & the lone queen.
Ants are of different types and are one of the most common creatures in the world. Regardless of their tiny They are small but terrible; they may pose a threat to animals as well as humans.
The behavior of ants may vary according to their class. Ants’ color may vary from red to brown or black and their size vary from two to 25 millimeters.
Army ants & driver ants are highly evolved ants. Driver ants can be seen in Africa and army ants can be found in South America. Unlike other species, they do not have permanent nests. Their colonies reproduce via two ways – nuptial flights or fission.
Ants that build their nests in trees by attaching leaves together are known as weaver ants. These creatures first pull the leaves together with a bridge of workers and then they sew the leaves by pressing silk producing larvae on the leaves.
Ants with generally have enlarged bellies are honeypot ants. These ants are typically found in hot, dry places such as deserts in Australia, Africa and North America. They are also considered a great delicacy in some places.
Leafcutter ants live only within their colony & feed only on fungus. They come in various sized classes to carry out various functions that are to be done in the colony.
Another unique type of ant is the fire ant. These ants have a sac of poison that is filled with piperidine alkaloids.
Lastly, one of the biggest and most primitive varieties of ants are the Australian bulldog ants. They have only one chromosome.
